Shape Matching for Toddlers

My toddler LOVES to match and many others do.

So when I decided to start introducing shapes to him I straight away thought a matching game would be fun.

I had already been introducing him to shapes in a general way, for example in normal conversation, “here’s your plate William, it’s a circle”. But I wanted to up the game.

I found these free printables on Pinterest (gotta love Pinterest!) and they were perfect!

I decided to print and laminate the colourful shapes as I knew I would use them a lot (a few months down the line and they’ve had a lot of use!). William’s job was to match them to the shape outline.

He was surprisingly good and again it was a reminder for me that his brain is a sponge just taking everything in. It absolutely amazes me!

I was also shocked how much he loved this activity. We did it together for nearly an hour! His favourite way to play was for me to place a shape over the wrong outline and for him to tell me ‘NO’ and showing me where it should go. Lots of acting on my behalf “Ohhhh I didn’t realise it went there”! 😉
