How to Dye Chickpeas for Sensory Play

Oh my goodness.
How GORGEOUS are these chickpeas?
I think I have found my all time favourite sensory base in these bad boys!

Here’s how to dye chickpeas for sensory play
To dye the chickpeas is super simple. All you need is:
- Dried uncooked chickpeas straight from the bag
- Acrylic paint
- Zip lock bag
Step 1
Add the dried chickpeas to a zip lock bag. I had a few colours I wanted to use so added just a cup of chickpeas.
Step 2
Add a few drops of acrylic paint, close the bag and give it a good mix so all the chickpeas are nicely coated. Add a bit more paint if you think they need it.
Step 3
Open bag and leave to dry for 5 minutes.
And that mama, is it! SO simple right? I think that’s why I love them! 😉
Even better store them in an air tight container in a cool dark place and they are going to last for a very long time! Repeat with as many different colours as you like.

Have you tried dying chickpeas before? If not and you give it a go please let me know how you go on. I would also love to see your photos of how you used them in play. Dont forget to tag me @hiphoorayletsplay on Instagram!
Here is one of my favourite activities to set up for William using the dyed chickpeas. It’s also been one of my most liked posts on instagram, everyone loves a unicorn….or a rhino as William calls it 😉
