Simple Space Tray

William hasn’t shown a particular interest in all things ‘space’ yet.

I have lots of ideas up my sleeves for when that time comes but for now I set up a super quick activity with some space themed wrapping paper I found in the cupboard.

I cut a piece of the paper to fit the bottom of a baking tray. I thought about what sensory base would work well and decided on white rice. I poured the white rice on top of the paper making sure there was enough to cover it but also so that he could move it to see what was underneath.

The idea was that William could move the rice and fine the pictures of space – aliens, spaceships and spaceman underneath.

I also added a copy of ‘The Wilbies Go To The Moon’ which we read before bedtime that evening. If you haven’t read it, it’s a really lovely book.

He actually enjoyed this much more than I expected and its given me the idea to do it more in future with different themes and images. In fact, I’m off to set up an animal version now….!
