Lemon Scooping

Phew it’s been hot hot hot in the UK recently.

It’s a rare phenomenon but it happens occasionally 😉

We’ve been going into the garden early morning for play and water play has been a big hit.

Heck I don’t even mind if he splashes me at the moment so it really must be HOT! 😉

For this activity you will need:

  • A waterproof tub
  • Lemon slices
  • Yellow food colouring

I simply slice the lemon, filled a tub with water and added a few drops of yellow food colouring and provided a scoop and bucket. So easy yet so fun!

William has always enjoyed water play and when we’re doing it most days its fun to mix it up. Ways in which he was learning whilst having fun:

  1. We talked about the colour and reinforced the Spanish word for yellow.
  2. He practised his gross and fine motor skills scooping
  3. He worked on his hand eye coordination
  4. He had to deal with frustration at not being able to scoop the lemon slices sometimes. Learning that you have to practise and you might not always get it right straightaway!

If you have a baby you can use a shallow tray for them to explore with you.
