Feed the Monkey Posting Activity

This activity is from Little Lifelong Learners ‘Little Play Club‘.

This activity is not just a posting game. On each banana you need to feed the monkey, there is a different shape.

This is perfect for teaching or reinforcing shapes. We all need a reminder from time to time….don’t even get me started on hexagon, pentagons and octagons! 😉

After cutting out a big mouth in the monkey I used blu tack to add it to a plastic measuring jug and left the cut out bananas next to it.

A few different things we did with this activity:

1. Fed the monkey by feeding him the banana and making munching sounds
2. I shouted the shape name out as William fed the monkey, he found this hilarious!
3. I hid the bananas around the living room and William had to find them. When he fund one he would tell me the shape (the ones he could remember).

Although these activities do take 15 minutes to prep (mainly cutting everything out whilst watching tv in the evening!), I think its great to have a couple of activities like this to hand. I keep them in a folder and if I’m not feeling inspired or I want to get William occupied fast, its great to have something fun to pull out.
