Coin Recognition

William found some coins and was very excited. of course he had no idea what they were but they’re shiny and new so they’re fun!

I actually think he noticed them because he has been loving playing with a pig toy at nursery that is a money box, apparently it’s his favourite thing to play with.

This activity was too advanced for William so I’m looking forward to trying it again in a few months. He still had fun but he wasn’t bothered about the sorting part. I thought he might have been as he had bene showing an interest so maybe it was just the day, but he preferred pouring the coins from the cups. And that’s absolutely FINE. Play should be child led so I let him get on with it after it was clear he wasn’t interested in sorting them.

For this activity I hit up trusty Google to find me some pictures of coins and got these great ones. I stuck them to some bowls and cups and left out a selection of money. I did give the coins a clean first.

Such a great math and real life experience play. Also perfect calming activity if your kid needs a bit of down time.
